Bristol Rovers boss rallies his cup battlers

Bristol Rovers boss Mark McGhee has praised goalkeeper Sam Walker for the way in which he has responded to being dropped from the side.
Walker arrived on loan from Chelsea at the start of the season, but has not featured since September 18 following the arrival of fellow loanee Neil Etheridge from Fulham.
The manager is offering Walker the chance of a rare start against Sheffield United at the Memorial Stadium tomorrow after Fulham denied Rovers permission to play Etheridge in the FA Cup and McGhee said: "In Sam we have a goalkeeper in which we have a lot of hope and a lot of faith in. He has worked really hard in training after getting over the initial disappointment of being left out. He's ready to come back in now and to prove to everyone what a good goalkeeper he is.
"The great thing for me when Neil arrived was that Sam wanted to stay here and prove himself to me.
"At no point did he turn around and say he wanted to scuttle back to Chelsea. That would have been the easy thing for him to do.
"I have to give him a lot of credit to him for staying here and putting the work in."
McGhee has been granted permission to play on-loan pair Tom Eaves and Matt Lund – but will be without Tom Parkes after the defender picked up an additional one-match ban for dissent to the referee after being sent off at Wimbledon on October 23.
"I was at Wembley on Wednesday trying my best to get him off," said McGhee.
"I think it will be a one-off. Tom is a player who I think is maturing quickly. I can't see this sort of thing becoming a regular occurrence."
Rovers yesterday confirmed the appointment of Tom Curtis, 39, as their new Academy director. He succeeds Ken Oram.
