1. Olympic torch route Bristol - all you need to know: In May the Olympic torch passed through the city over two days. Thousands of you lined the streets as it went from Bitton to Hanham, Old Market, Castle Park, Millennium Square, College Green, Hotwells Road, Nailsea, Backwell , Flax Bourton and then over Clifton Suspension Bridge, through Clifton, Henleaze and Southmead before leaving via Filton. 2. BREAKING NEWS: Security alert forces evacuation of Cabot Circus in Bristol: In August customers and staff were evacuated from parts of Cabot Circus shopping centre following a security alert. Shoppers were asked to leave the complex in Bristol city centre after a suspicious package was discovered. Teenager Daniel Davies, 19, of Crow Lane in Henbury later appeared in court charged with carrying out a bomb hoax. He is due to go on trial in February. 3. �100m super yacht Mogambo sails into Bristol Harbourside: In March superyacht Mogambo docked in Bristol's floating harbour, where she attracted much attention moored a few hundred yards from the ss Great Britain and the Matthew. 4. Trapped woman killed as car plunges into river in Bristol: In October, young mum Narmara Whisker was killed when the car she was travelling in careered through the railings of St Philip's Bridge in Passage Street and into the floating harbour. Earlier this month the driver of the car, 31-year-old Shennie Jaffer, of Robertson Road, Easton, was jailed for six years and eight months after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving driving with excess alcohol and driving without insurance or a proper driving licence. 5. Headless body found at Bristol mental hospital : In January, a headless body was found in the grounds of Callington Road Hospital in Brislington. The body was later identified as that of 39-year-old Michael Eyers, of St Anne's. It was not disclosed whether Mr Eyers had been receiving treatment from Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Trust, which runs Callington Road Hospital, although at the time his body was found, on January 11, the trust said that no current in-patients were missing. His death was not treated as suspicious. 6. Hit musical The Lion King is coming to Bristol Hippodrome : In February ThisisBristol and The Post announced that Disney's The Lion King – the biggest stage musical ever to tour Britain – was coming to The Hippodrome in September. We later reported that the show had brough �6 million into the Bristol economy. 7. M32 closed after concerns raised for man's safety: In September there was traffic chaos when the M32 was closed in both directions after schizophrenic Shane Heyman, 31, of Victoria Parade, Redfield, stood on the wrong side of the barrier of a bridge over the carriageway at the St Paul's junction. He later appeared in court and was given a one-year conditional discharge for causing a public nuisance. 8. Firm linked to Kate Middleton's topless photos closes company website : In September, in the wake of the furore over topless photos of Kate Middleton being published, The Post revealed that a UK website reproducing the photos had been set up using the name of a Bristol company. Bee Digital Media Ltd soon closed down its own company site, and said: "We were unaware of [the topless photo website's] existence until today." 9. Occupy Bristol protesters now squatting �3m mansion in Clifton: In February we reported that one of Bristol's most expensive properties – previously on the market for a cool �4.2 million – had become home to squatters, including members of the Occupy Bristol protest in College Green last year. They were later evicted. 10. Bristol woman Marie Friendship facing jail for sexual activity with boy: In August Bristol woman Marie Jane Friendship admitted sexual misconduct with a teenage boy. Friendship, 38, of Holford Court avoided being sent to jail when she was sentenced this month , and was given a suspended sentence.
