Council contractors have wrecked a "wonderful wildlife habitat" at Canford Park, Bristol.

IT is with considerable anger that I find the need to email you.

This concerns the wanton and unnecessary destruction of our most desirable local park in BS9 at the hands of the Bristol Parks department.

The actions at Canford Park over the last two weeks have been carried out without consultation with local residents and regular users of the park, a belated posting of a single sheet A4 plan is certainly no substitute.

This park represented a green and pleasant space, with trees, bushes and hedges from wherever one viewed it from within the park.

It provided a wonderful wildlife habitat for birds and small animals, as well as the occasional visiting foxes, badger and during the winter, even a heron.

This has now been totally destroyed!

Most hedges, bushes and even healthy trees have been cut down, rooted out and removed.

The former green and pleasant view has been replaced on two sides by a continual view of boring suburban housing, traffic lights and endless queues of waiting and noisy traffic.

Only the courageous action of a local family with its children saved the last large bushy tree by the main gate from being felled, they staged a sit-in in the tree to prevent your hired contract mercenaries from destroying it, remaining there both Friday and Saturday to do so.

Your contractors received the vociferous objections of both the local residents and park users whilst carrying out your orders, but I am well aware that the real blame lies with the grey apparatchiks, whose salaries we pay through our rates, but who evidently and arrogantly choose to ignore our views.
